Roundabouts i.e. collision-free intersections are located in the most demanding places in terms of safety and traffic intensity. Their proper lighting will allow drivers to see the roundabout and its layout and other vehicles.
The proper illumination of a roundabout must take into account:
– appropriate intensity level, min. 15 lx C3(M3) class and 30 lx C1(M1) class;
– uniformity of light intensity (its coefficient at min. 0,4);
– no glare – for comfort and detail recognition;
– appropriate contrast for roundabout drivers to identify vehicles and pedestrians on time.
A roundabout can be illuminated by lanterns located in-between access roads or by a high mast with fixtures in the middle.
